Oregon Convention Center achieves LEED Platinum recertification

The Oregon Convention Center has been recertified as a LEED® Platinum building by the U.S. Green Building Council — the highest of the USGBC’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design standards and an internationally recognized benchmark for sustainable building practices. OCC is one of only two convention centers in the United States to hold that distinction and continues a Portland tradition of achieving the highest levels of sustainable practice.

A major project to upgrade the Oregon Convention Center is under way and on pace for completion at the end of this year to coincide with the opening of the 600-room Hyatt Regency hotel one block to the north.

The $39 million renovation will modernize public areas of the 30-year-old structure, providing an enhanced guest experience while establishing better connections to entries and improving wayfinding for hotel guests and transit users disembarking from the adjacent MAX platform.

Move over PDX carpet. There's another carpet in town that is creating quite a buzz.

It's the old dated carpet being torn out of the Oregon Convention Center as part of a $39 million renovation project.

But you won't be able to purchase a piece of it or find it made into furniture. It is, however, being used for a good cause.

Oregon Convention Center to add some color to this year's Portland Winter Light Festival

Now in its fourth year, the annual Portland Winter Light Festival is a citywide event showcasing illuminated art installations, vibrant performances, and stunning kinetic fire sculptures throughout our city.

Over 100 artists, performers and locations will take part, including the Oregon Convention Center. The OCC is a Dazzling Sponsor of the festival and will display a dynamic and colorful light show from 6 to 11 p.m., February 7th through 9th!

Hotel construction approaching homestretch

The construction site has become a seeming fixture, but crews are clearly making progress on the massive Hyatt Regency Portland at the Oregon Convention Center.

The hotel will be 14 stories and hold 440,000 square feet. Inside, there will be 600 rooms, a pair of ballrooms and meeting space. Metro is spearheading the project to serve its convention center across Northeast Holladay Street.

Born in Swansea, Wales and raised in Dunchurch, England, Chef Becky Holmes began baking with her grandmother before she could even reach the kitchen counter. She would help pick rhubarb and gooseberries from the garden, and was sent to collect eggs from the chicken coop each morning, before dragging over a dining room chair to help make a crumble, scones, or tea cakes.

The Oregon Convention Center is undergoing a major renovation to reinvigorate the image of the convention center to local Portlanders, as well as improve its national competitiveness. The project construction bidding resulted in the largest Oregon public works contract being awarded to a minority owned business, Colas Construction, as the general contractor for the $39 million project.
