Metro’s Visitor Venues: Economic driver and employer of thousands

Metro’s visitor venues – the Oregon Convention Center, Portland Expo Center, Oregon Zoo and Portland’5 Center for the Arts – induced $878 million in spending in 2017, according to a new analysis of economic impacts.

The venues hosted 1,445 events, which collectively translated to 8,470 jobs and $33.3 million in tax revenue.

Photos: Crews make headway on convention center hotel

"Foundation work is complete on the Hyatt Regency Portland at the Oregon Convention Center, a 600-room hotel in the Lloyd District. Officials expect the structure to generate additional conventions and draw more tourists to the area. Mortenson is the developer and design-builder of the $240 million project, which was designed by ESG Architects of Minneapolis. The 14-story building will have a bar, a restaurant and a ground-floor retail market, as well as 32,000 square feet of ballroom and meeting space."

New convention center hotel to offer more options for local, national business travelers

"Nearly a dozen new conventions have booked the Oregon Convention Center through 2024, thanks to the new Hyatt Regency Portland hotel being built nearby, and business travelers from throughout Oregon are expected to benefit along with those from outside the state."

Oregon Convention Center awarded Gold certification under Portland's Sustainability at Work program

Oregon Convention Center (OCC) was recently awarded the City of Portland's Sustainability at Work certification. Offered by the city's Bureau of Planning and Sustainability, the program has helped thousands of Portland businesses advance green initiatives in the workplace since 2007. OCC is the first Metro venue to achieve the certification.

The Oregon Convention Center’s glass spires have been a famous feature of Portland’s skyline for 27 years, particularly when they light up at night. But keep an eye on them. Thanks to a recent lighting system upgrade, you will occasionally see the familiar green-white towers glow in a range of colors.
