Metro’s Visitor Venues: Economic driver and employer of thousands

Portland’s most prominent visitor venues, operated by Metro, contributed $773 million to greater Portland’s economy in 2018, according to a report by Crossroads Consulting. The report said the Oregon Convention Center, Portland Expo Center, Oregon Zoo and Portland’5 Center for the Arts combined for 1,435 events, collectively which translated to $773 million in spending, 7,310 jobs and $27.7 million in tax revenue.

"The Oregon Convention Center produces robust economic benefits with $626 million of total spending generated last year. Sustainability is part of the convention center's operational fabric. Last year, 9,800 goods were given to reuse organizations and more than 40,660 pounds of food donated to local nonprofits that address food scarcity.

Metro’s visitor venues – the Oregon Convention Center, Portland Expo Center, Oregon Zoo and Portland’5 Center for the Arts – induced $878 million in spending in 2017, according to a new analysis of economic impacts.

The venues hosted 1,445 events, which collectively translated to 8,470 jobs and $33.3 million in tax revenue.

Oregon Convention Center releases FY 2016-17 annual report

With best-in-class service and a commitment to sustainability and innovation, the Oregon Convention Center completed another great year of bringing the world to Portland. The conventions we hosted drew record-setting crowds for event organizers while contributing more than $625 million to the region’s economy.

Thanks to the hard work and dedication of our entire team, it was another year of pioneering firsts and notable milestones for the Oregon Convention Center. There are new solar panels on our roof and a world-class hotel in the works. We provided innovative solutions for convention organizers, even building an Olympic-class stadium within our walls. And we generated more revenue than ever, to the economic benefit of the entire region.
