OCC site of one of 100 new BIKETOWN bike share stations

BIKETOWN, Portland’s next generation bike share system, launched on July 19. Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) and its partners unveiled a map of the first 100 BIKETOWN station locations. The map is available at BIKETOWNPDX.com. The stations house 1,000 "smart bikes" with the latest technology.

Team OCC tackles four gigantic events

Last week the Oregon Convention Center wrapped up its fourth huge event of 2016 – the 222nd General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church. The conference booked the entire building for 12 days, and more than 3,000 people from all over the country attended.

This past spring, Oregon Convention Center welcomed IAAF and TrackTown USA into their building as they hosted the World Indoor Track and Field Championships. After more than 2 years of ongoing planning meetings with the client and their venue team, this event took center stage in front of a live audience and TV viewers around the world, March 17–20, 2016, following 5 weeks of build-out, trial runs and lots of late nights.

Metro’s Metropolitan Exposition Recreation Commission, or MERC, recently approved its new board of officers. The commission appointed Elisa J. Dozono, partner at the law firm of Miller Nash Graham & Dunn LLP, as chair. Karis Stoudamire-Phillips, community relations and corporate responsibility supervisor at Moda Health, will serve as vice chair. Deidra Krys-Rusoff, vice president at Ferguson-Wellman, will serve as secretary-treasurer.

The Oregon Convention Center recently won Smart Meetings 2016 Smart Stars Award for Best Convention Center. Competing against other convention and exhibition facilities, as well as resort hotels, casinos and cruise lines, the OCC was selected by its industry peers for its continued leadership in sustainability practices and exceptional customer service.

This is the fourth consecutive year that the OCC has won the award.

Mural paying tribute to black pioneers to soon gain prominence at OCC

Metro is home to a masterful artwork depicting the history of African Americans in the West. Currently located in the south wing of the Oregon Convention Center, Bilalian Odyssey is local artist Isaka Shamsud-Din’s vision of important but little-known figures from the African American community dating from 1805 to the late 1920s. The 8’ x 16’ mural is breathtaking.
